I know this great little place...

I love finding new places in London. Places that are non-touristy, relatively cheap (always welcomed!) and that have got their own character. Fleet River Bakery is one of them, I think I've lost count of the number of times I've been there the past few weeks. Tea is £2 and that's after the VAT increase! When ordering it, you get a small teapot with a cup and milk on the side in a little carafe. Now, two pounds might seem a lot, but this little pot contains enough tea for three cups! That, my friends, is a bargain.

Firsts

Instead of going to the gym today, I decided to take a walk along River Thames. Instead of sitting on a bike or being on the cross trainer for an hour staring into the wall, I decided to do some sightseeing. Instead of doing something old, I decided to do something new. It must have been 8 degrees and warm winds swept through my hair, very nice. In fact, I've been walking around in my TOMS Shoes the whole of January. And there were a couple of days where I only wore a leather jacket (not only, of course). Both firsts! Anyway, my starting point was Waterloo Bridge on the South Bank side and my goal was Waterloo Bridge, but on the Strand side. I walked towards the Houses of Parliament and got to see it (and everything else alongside the river) from an angle which I haven't seen before. To my disappointment (no, just kidding) no new discoveries were made. Although now that I think of it, there was one: I didn't know there was a park behind the Palace of Westminster.

From Fish Fingers to Hechts

This week has been like a roller coaster. Like the emotional life of a teenager. Monday couldn't have started worse, or, everything can be worse but you get my point. I couldn't sleep the previous night so I slept all morning when I really had to do some work. I had the AKC at noon, which I was late to because the train broke down in Battersea Park so we all had to change. Great. Later when I was going home, the bus never came. Finally, it came, and I went even further than usual to go to Sainsbury's to do some shopping. And when I got home, I realised that I had forgot my coupons that gives me twice the Nectar points I usually get. Great. Later, the good shower didn't work, so I had to take the one with the moldy ceiling and I got shampoo in my eye. Great. The day ended with the worst fight (yet? I do not hope so) with my Mum. Great. Tuesday wasn't better. Started the day with oversleeping and missing the only lecture I had that day, and I can't remember the rest of the day so it probably isn't something worth remembering. Oh, right, it followed by a sleepless night waking up on Wednesday with only 2 hours of sleep. So far, so shit...

Then, yesterday it all changed. Could it have been the Skype call with Helen? I don't know, but after that it took a u-turn. Ellie had an audition with the Guy's Chapel Choir and I went with her because we were going to another choir rehearsal later. She got in, yay her! :) And then the leader of the choir asked if I wanted to audition as well. Why not? I thought. Even if I was unprepared, I could always try. So we did some scales to test my range followed by a prepared piece, or in this case an unprepared piece. I chose a Swedish folksong and I messed up the lyrics but since he didn't understand anything of what I sang I just repeated the previous phrases, hehe. After that there was a sight-reading test. And I got in! So now we're both in Guy's Chapel Choir, having services every other Thursday and rehearsals every Wednesday.

After our successful auditions we went to Strand and rehearsed Brahm's Schicksalslied, which we're gonna sing with KCLSO in the end of February. It went really well, I was surprised by my sight-reading!

Today then, was also surprisingly good. Not only did the first service in Guy's Chapel go very well, but there were a lot of hechty fish around!! Not in the choir (of course...), but everywhere else. The streets of London had a lot to offer today, I must say. Also, Amnesty had a bake-sale at Strand today where they sold Krispy Kremes! So I guess it wasn't a real bake-sale but they were delicious and well worth the 80 p!

Like I said, this week has been up and down. I hope the week will end on top, but I guess only time will tell...

Productivity or idleness?

After having been in Shermany for the last couple of days, the blog is in its rightful position Amongst Anglos.

Yesterday the fire alarm went off again. This is, however, nothing unusual since it goes off at least once a week. But this time there actually was real smoke! So it wasn't all for nothing standing outside in the not-so-cold evening. I need to add that the firemen of the London Fire Brigade are somewhat of a disappointment, no hechts or salmons. More like fish fingers. Old fish fingers. Ew.

I still haven't decided whether this day should be productive or not. It is very tempting to just pop in a film and finish the Galaxy bar I bought yesterday. Although I need to go to Sainsbury's, because I don't have breakfast for tomorrow. I've got fruit, maybe I'll just make a fruit salad and let the idleness mark my day?
